New Identity Verification Requirements from Companies House

Companies House has introduced a new legal requirement for all individuals involved in setting up, running, owning, or controlling a company in the UK to verify their identity.

This measure is part of a wider effort to improve corporate transparency and reduce fraudulent activity. Directors, persons with significant control (PSCs), and others in similar roles will now need to complete a one-time identity verification process. This will apply across all roles and companies you may be connected to—only one verification is needed.

Companies House is currently sending out notification emails in phases, so you may not have received one yet.

There are two ways to complete this verification:

1. Independently – by setting up a GOV.UK One Login and submitting your ID details.
2. Via an authorised agent – we are able to complete the identity verification on your behalf.

If you’d like us to carry this out for you, we will need:

• Two forms of ID (e.g., a driving licence and a recent utility bill)
• Your email address
• Date of birth
• Home address

After the ID check is complete, both you and our firm will receive confirmation emails. Yours will include a Personal Code, which is required for future submissions, including Confirmation Statements. This code should be forwarded to us for safekeeping.

Please note, the identity verification will need to be renewed every seven years.
