Taxation
You are likely to have to complete a Self-Assessment Tax Return if, during the year, you have received rental income, had high earnings, disposed of capital – and in many other circumstances too. We provide a full service, from going through your source documents, to filing your tax returns with HMRC.
We look for tax savings and allowances to ensure the tax you pay is kept to a minimum – and will help identify where you do have a tax liability. We use tax planning and forecasting to look at future incomes or gains to minimise future tax payable where possible.
As with all our accountancy and business development services, you can choose for us to supply one single service or a package of different aspects. Whichever you choose, we will make sure our services are tailored to meet your individual needs.
The move to digital and MTD ITSA is coming and we are actively progressing with this to move our clients towards being ready for this. We are trialling and using various software’s and will happily help you with your choices and set you up to keep your records digitally.

Our Taxation Team
I qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2006 and joined Barwell Accountants in 2010, working in the accounts and tax department. Much of my time is spent dealing with the accounts and taxation of individuals, partnerships and small to medium sized owner managed companies. I enjoy the diverse range of businesses to which we offer a tailored service. The area of taxation is of particular interest to me, specifically property tax and tax planning for owner managed businesses.
I also support clients with timely management information using a variety of software packages such as Xero, Sage and Quickbooks along with additional software platforms such as Hammock. Moreover, following our current firm wide focus of supporting our clients to go digital, I work closely with individual clients and members of our book-keeping team to onboard them on to their preferred software package.
Away from the office
In my spare time I enjoy skiing and fitness. Most weekends I can be found on the side of a rugby or hockey pitch watching my children play. Thankfully my youngest has taken up an indoor sport – gymnastics!
I joined the team in 2011, having originally trained with Nickie in the 1990’s ! I work on the accounts and tax side of the business and enjoy the diversity it offers. As well as having trained with Nickie, I was also a manager with Katy at a practice in King’s Lynn.
I have been qualified 25 years and have seen many changes. I think the firm is progressive and adapts well to the changing world we live in. We offered a large amount of support to our clients during the challenging Covid 19 pandemic, and I believe we are well placed to deal with Making Tax Digital (MTD).
Away from the office
Outside of work I am getting back into running again and would love to run some more half marathons. I spend a lot of time transporting my 2 boys to various events, as well as regularly volunteering at junior park run and supporting my husband who chairs a youth football club. On the rare occasion we get any spare time we like eating out and doing escape rooms.
I joined Barwell Accountants in 2015 as a qualified accountant and have over 17 years’ experience working in practice.
I work with a wide range of clients in different sectors offering accounts, tax and management accounting services.
I have a keen interest in cloud accounting and works with new and established businesses to help streamline their accounting systems and allowing access to real-time accounts information to ensure compliance with Making Tax Digital.
I enjoy meeting clients face to face in order to build a great working relationship with them.
Away from the office
Outside of the office hours, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and can often be found on the side of a football pitch supporting my son. I also has a toddler who does her best to keep me on my toes.
Experience
I started in a small accountancy practice in Essex in 1983 after working in banking in the City of London. The practice then merged with a larger accountancy firm in 1995. Following 36 years in general practice working with a wide range of clients’ businesses spread throughout the UK, I relocated to Cambridgeshire and joined Barwell’s in 2019. My experience is ideally suited to assisting clients in their business, corporate and personal tax affairs.
Hobbies
After playing hockey for many years, now enjoys supporting the local hockey, football, rugby and cricket teams. Until recently I also enjoyed training motorcyclists to an advanced level, and much to my wife’s delight, enjoy DIY around the home.
